About six months ago we took a hard look at all of the various aspects of our work as we charted out a course for 2010 and beyond. We looked at areas that we could better serve our clients, new product lines to offer while continuing the art. This lead to one of our busiest winters ever as we revamped nearly every aspect that we do.

One area that we knew we had outgrown was this blog. It has served us well over the past years, but it has unfortunately limited us. As we have grown, the blog has not been able to grow with us. We needed a better method to share our work and services. We contacted our favorite design team Into The Darkroom and began the process. I really can't begin to say how amazing their service to me has been, they take the time to understand their client's needs - imagine that?

Nancy and Josh - A San Francisco Engagement

Nancy contacted me last year after she saw her friends wedding photos and just about hired me on the spot. This past weekend we met in the afternoon at the Beach Chalet, where Golden Gate Park meets the Pacific, for an engagement session. Outside of phone conversations, it was the first time we all had the chance to meet each other, so it was great to talk with them face to face. It quickly became evident to me that having a camera follow them around was going to push them outside of their comfort zone. But hey, it's my job right?

We traveled (seemingly aimlessly and perhaps a bit too much) through the city and then to the Marin Headlands, with a quick stopover to view a small bridge. It's always a bit of a challenge to me to come to some place so iconic as this and do something that doesn't look like a replica of everyone's tourist photos. These next two pictures are special for me because I used a 40 year old lens from my grandfather. As Josh said, that thing has got some mojo!

There's something about the beach that is forever stuck in my heart.

Once the sun dropped below the horizon, we headed back across the Golden Gate Bridge and into North Beach. We walked around taking in the nighttime vibe and capturing a taste of it for ourselves.

As I left Nancy and Josh, they stopped to enjoy a glass of wine and romantic dinner to end the evening.

I know there are lots of images here, but I made a slideshow with even more photos. It's work and all, but there's nothing like getting to know a couple and spend the day with them creating memories. One thing is for certain, I can't wait for the wedding! See you both soon!

The McWatts - Family photography Yosemite style

The McWatt's contacted me just a few days before they planned to arrive in Yosemite. It was their first trip to the park, but a special one; they were coming to celebrate their tenth anniversary and renew their weddings vows. And the best part was that their four year old daughter was going to officiate the ceremony - how cool is that?

Those of you who know me, know that I generally shy away from family photography. It's not that I don't enjoy it (I really do), but generally speaking my photographic vision doesn't line up with traditional family photography clients and I don't like do work that doesn't inspire me. When the McWatt's first contacted me, they made it very clear that they wanted me because of my style photography and how it matched their family. Now we're getting somewhere.

We met up late in the afternoon at the Ahwahnee Hotel and traveled around the park for a few hours. Their family has a lively personality; a mother and father deeply in love, son and daughter wild with life. Their personalities are honest and true. That is what drives and makes the photos, the McWatt's. It's all about them.

It was a great experience being able to spend the day with such solid family and get to know them. I look forward to seeing you guys next year!

Bridgette and Tommy - Yosemite Elopement in the Snow

Outdoor adverturers through and through, Bridgette and Tommy traveled from Lake Tahoe to marry in Yosemite. It was a planned elopement with two of their closest friends in one of their favorite spots on earth.

These two are some of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Some people might be upset by snow on their wedding day. For them it made the day; the scenery took on a new beautiful look, created a totally unique wedding for them, and the snow definitely meant fresh powder for them the next day at Badger Pass.

I met up with Bridgette and her friend Shannon as the prepared for the wedding in their Ahwahnee Hotel room where Carol of Bellissimo was putting on the finishing touches on their hair and makeup.

Meanwhile downstairs, Tommy and his friend Tim were relaxing with a beer. It was immediately obvious to me by Tommy's attitude how much he cared for Bridgette; he sat in quiet contemplation of his coming wedding and lifetime with his wife.

I was busy snapping a few portraits of Tommy, when his bride stepped out of the elevator and they caught their first glimpse of each other (a moment, I am sure they will never forget).

After a few minutes of heartfelt embraces, we headed outside to take some photos around the park before the ceremony. It was cold and the weather kept switching between snow and rain, but they came prepared with art-deco umbrellas. We traveled through the park in two cars, the girls in one and the guys with me. I bring this up only because the whole time Tommy was in the car with me, he couldn't stop talking about how beautiful his bride was. Love, baby.

Just like the week before, I had the bride and groom duck into the tunnel to get out the the elements while I continued to shoot. This one's for you Carol!

The clouds opened up and beautiful light came through just long enough to let us get this shot. None of us could stop talking about how beautiful the park is in the winter.

Eventually we made our way down to the Yosemite Valley Chapel, where Rev. Autrey Nassar held a ceremony in the open meadow. As luck would have it, this was the exact moment that the temperature dropped and the pouring rain turned to dumping snow.

This picture has the perfect ratio of snow, love and tears of joy.

As soon as the ceremony was over, we headed back to the warmth of the Ahwahnee to sign the marriage license and take a few more photos around the hotel.

To close off the night, everyone gathered for a drink inside the Ahwahnee's bar and an impromptu crazybooth-sans-booth appearance.

As I shoot more and more elopements, I am beginning to understand that they are less about escaping the rituals associated with a wedding and more about free you to have your wedding. It's a state of mind, not a statement. Congratulations again Bridgette and Tommy - a truly unique wedding adventure to start your new adventure together!

Kathleen and Stephen - Yosemite Elopement In the Rain

An elopement is the ultimate in wedding freedom. When Kathleen and Stephen first began to plan their Yosemite wedding, they suddenly realized all of the wedding details that demanded answers. It wasn't long, they told me, that they knew that the freedom of an elopement was right for them. All at once, questions about the appetizers and musicians melted away leaving them to have their wedding. When you're having a wedding on your own terms, you only see each other, not the seeming obstacles.

That's why when I first saw the weather forecast for their wedding day, I knew the wedding would not be postponed. Kathleen and Stephen were not going to let a little bit of rain and sleet stop them. Instead, we embraced the rain and moved forward. The way that they looked at each other as the rain drenched them was simply poetic.

We started the day in the Ahwahnee Hotel, for a few quick portraits before we stepped into the rain.

We crossed the Merced River and held a small ceremony at the base of Yosemite Falls. The ceremony was uber-quick; they exchanged their vows and rings before a passionate kiss.

After the ceremony we traveled around the Valley for a while shooting in the rain.

We headed up to Tunnel View, hoping the clouds might open up as the storm passed, but we didn't get that lucky immediately. Instead, we went into the tunnel to stay dry. I've been wanting to shoot in this tunnel for quite a while, but normally there is a lot of traffic here. Thankfully this day there were only a few cars (and snowplows) that we had to dodge. Hey, no one said this photography thing was totally safe.

Finally, the sky opened up for us to gaze across the valley.

After the sun went down, we stopped for just a few more photos.

For me it was a challenging day to say the least, I've never shot all day in the rain. In the back of my mind I kept wondering what a "weatherproof" camera really meant. But not even once did I have to tell Kathleen or Stephen to force a smile or look happy. And for your family Kathleen, I was there and it did happen - they got married!

Planning a Yosemite Elopement

There are many reasons to elope, some practical, some personal. Elopements are very special and bring the focus of the wedding directly to the love between a man and a woman, and nothing else. Ultimately, whether or not to elope is entirely your decision. But the truth is, despite being much easier to plan than a full wedding, elopements in Yosemite do require a bit a special planning.

Planning a wedding from a distance is difficult to say the least. With an elopement in Yosemite, you do have freedom to have the wedding at the location of your choice, you are no longer restricted to venues or locations to suit large groups. I have created the guide below to help take care of some of the issues that might come up.

Pick a date. One of the first things to consider is exactly when to get married in Yosemite. Each season has different opportunities. Spring has fresh growth and waterfalls. Summer brings warmth and easy access. In the fall, the waterfalls dry up and the changing colors are spectacular. Winter brings snowfall and a winter wonderland. All that being said, if you have the opportunity, plan your wedding for a weekday to avoid crowds and get better rates with vendors.
Find a location. This can be difficult to say the least because of the overwhelming beautiful places to get married. Think about what aspects are the most important to you when you think of Yosemite (waterfalls, open meadows, grand vistas, etc.) and start your search there. One other issue to consider is the influence of tourism and crowds. If your weddings is going to be over 10 people in size, you should view the park's recommended sites as you will be limited to these.
Choose an officiant. Check through our list of officiants here and see who fits your needs and personality. I recommend talking with a possible officiant to see if they are right for you. With their experience, they will also be able to help you choose the perfect location for your wedding.
Marriage License. You can start the process at your local county clerk's office, or contact Mariposa County's office. The County of Mariposa charges a $50 fee for the license. I can recommend working with Mariposa County as it is a smaller office and moves quickly.
Park Permit. Yosemite National Park requires you to have a Special Use Permit for your wedding in the park. You can find detailed information on the park's website or by contacting Chris Thorpe at 209-379-1858. You will need to supply a planned location (although not necessaryily spot specific) as well as $150 for the permit fee.

Allison and Randy - Waterfront Wedding

I have always been drawn to water. It's been quite common for me to end up in any nearby water during photoshoots, even to the point of treading water in a river while holding my camera overhead and (hopefully) dry just to get the shot. One of the things that has been on my shortlist for quite a while has been a waterproof housing for my camera to give me a bit of safety in this situation and open new doors.

Last weekend took me to Los Angeles for a variety of reasons, some business meetings and some personal fun. The week before I had purchased an underwater housing for my older camera and wanted to test in a pool that isn't frozen over. I packed the housing, one camera (with a battery that may or may not have been charged), one memory card, and the two lenses that fit in the housing (50mm & 35mm). Given the size of the underwater housing (this thing is huge), I didn't even bother to bring my camera bag.

Shortly after we got the family in car for the drive south, I remarked to Katie that I guess I wasn't going to do any real shooting because I didn't even bring my camera bag with me. None of my favorite lenses and no lights whatsoever.

Unbeknownst to me, Allison and Randy were planning to get married on Saturday, but suddenly were without a photographer. A dear friend of mine who was officiating the ceremony knew that I was in town for the weekend and told them to give me a call on Saturday morning. They were looking for someone to get some amazing photos of them before the ceremony to remember their day. About four hours before the ceremony, we talked and worked out the details - an hour long photo session to before the ceremony.

I've always believed in helping people out, especially when they find themselves in a bind, but I was honestly a bit anxious. Sure, I've shot a lot of weddings and know what to expect, but I also know what to bring (like backup equipment). I had one camera with an unknown battery status (died just after the shoot) and two lenses that would be far from my top choice (they were chosen only because they are physically my smallest lenses). Could I quickly think outside of my box in a challenging environment? Thankfully, I enjoy a good challenge and had a lot of fun with it.

I arrived at Ports O'Call in San Pedro a little after 3pm and met up with Allison and Randy. They were just finishing with their final details for their wedding when we introduced ourselves. That area is incredibly inspiring, I felt as if I could have shot with them for the next few weeks there and never come close to exhausting the possibilities. Allison and Randy walked around Ports O'Call for the next hour as we shot in various locations; they had a style all to their own. Suddenly my lack of camera equipment took a back seat to the couple. Check out some of my favorites below!

Just near the end of our time together, Allison and Randy told me how happy they were that I didn't force them to smile in every shot. So that naturally meant that I had to make them smile right?

I've always enjoyed working with a limited set of tools once in a while to help me better understand the tools I have, but normally I do this on my own time, not at a wedding. This day I had no choice. Despite my thoughts before the wedding about not having my favorite tools, I quickly realized I had the only things that mattered - a couple in madly in love.

My Creative Process - Foreground Bokeh

A frame that I took last week at Tanya and Ryan's wedding has had a more than a few photographers ask how I did it. Most of the photographers probably know my general dislike of all things Photoshop when it comes to effects in my images too, ruling that out. The truth is, an image like this is easier to shoot than you'd think; although I found a way to make it complicated. For the record, had I know this post was coming, I would have taken a setup shot--something for me to think about in the future.

For reference, here the image in question:

When I came to this location, I knew this is the shot that I wanted to get because I had taken a very similiar shot just a few months prior in the exact same location. The only difference this time was that it was near dusk; months earlier when I tried it was around 1pm. That was the wrench in my plans that complicated things. Now let's go for a walk in a few past images to see how I got here.

I've taken lots of images like the one above, we all have. While the bride and groom share a romantic kiss, the sun is backlighting them through the trees and a shallow depth of field brings the viewers eyes right to the couple. For todays discussion, the important thing is whats going on in the background, and more to the point the trees. Because I have thrown the background out of focus, the specular highlights have taken on the shape of the lens. This is commonly referred to as bokeh, that dreamy blur that wedding photographers love so much.

The image above shows another step in my creative mind. Sure its just another reception photo of a toast, nothing special going on here - but look at the lights. In this frame, the maid of honor is standing in front of a glass window. Just outside of that window are strings of white christmas lights decorating trees. Notice again how the specular highlights are rendered when out of focus on a wide open lens? This is very close to what I did in the photo in question.

Hopefully by now you're starting to see the only missing piece to this puzzle. So far we've seen what happens to out of focus highlights in the background of the image. What I really wanted to do was put those specular highlights between my camera and the subject. Enter model shoot.

A few months back I created the image above while on a model shoot (coincidently with the same photographer who was the bride in the first image). For this image, we worked with a fountain that was backlit by the sun. There was also a slight breeze this day that helped spread the spray from the fountain a bit. I had Rose our model stand on one side of the fountain while I was on the opposite side shooting through the spray. The sun was fairly high in the sky (it's lighting up the models hair) and backlighting everything. Suddenly the water drops sucked up the sun light and became out of focus specular highlights, but now they are in the foreground. In order to complete the image, I added a bit of light from camera left only on the model to make her pop.

So fast forward to last weekend, in the exact same location, only the time was different. This time, instead of having backlit sun, I worked in even shade during dusk. I put the couple in the same place I had previously put the model and expected the same results. They stood on one side of the fountain while I stood on the opposite side shooting right through the water spray. What I got was blah - a photo of a beautiful couple obscured by a gray sheet of water. The magic was gone. The light was gone. I ran to my bag, grabbed some light and went to work.

Going from my previous experience, I knew I needed to backlight the water. I put one flash on the ground (camera right) aimed right at the water spray of the fountain, but made sure it would not be aimed at my lens. I snapped a frame and suddenly I had the water looking great, but I couldn't see the couple. I quickly setup a flagged softbox camera left to light the couple. As a side note, I generally use some variant of a CTO gel on people to add a little warmth into their lives and here it works perfectly. I used a full CTO gel in the softbox.

In this frame it's a bit easier to tell that I am working with a fountain because the spray is uneven on its side. All of the elements that I wanted are there; the couple is lit with soft light, the water drops are lit and out of focus. When using the CTO gel, I white balance my camera for tungsten to make the water droplets go blue. One other major difference between this attempt and my model shoot version is the lack of ambient light. In this version, I created all of the light in the frame, in the models shoot version I used the ambient. This version is dark, and dare I say romantic. If you try this on your own, I encourage you to snap plenty of frames as the water movement is a bit unpredictable. I love it.

So as you can see, I am always looking for new ways to grow and learn from my photography. Experiment and try new things and develop your own style. For me, this shot is really the result of asking "What if I did...?" I promise as I move forward to take setup shots of photos like this to help everyone out.

As a side note, I was recently contact by a photographer who was sent hate mail because of his use of model shoots. He posted his results from a recent model shoot on his blog (which was already filled with outstanding work) and made it very clear that it was in fact a model. The hater complained that anyone can do anything on a model shoot and that it doesn't apply to real world weddings because there is no stress. As you can see, I completely disagree. Model shoots are a place for us photographers to work out new idea and try new things - to build and grow. Besides, one of my most stressful shoots ever was when I hired a model out of my pocket at the cost of a few hundred dollars for the hour, not really knowing if any of my ideas would work out.

Shooting a friends wedding

Today at the Elderberry House in Oakhurst, Ryan and Tanya of Photography from the Heart were married. It was a very small and intimate ceremony for close friends and family in a gorgeous location.

I've shot with Tanya a few times in the past and was quite honored when she asked me to take photos of her wedding. Shortly after the reception, I joined Ryan and Tanya (and fellow photographer Carrie Lynn) to take a portraits around the Elderberry House. Once again, our friend Carol from Bellissimo Brides had worked her magic on the beautiful bride. I felt a bit like a relief pitcher coming in at the 9th inning, but with their fun loving spirit the day was just beginning. Working with other photographers is always such a blast, and when one of them is the bride it's just that much better.

Congratulations again Tanya and Ryan; I wish you both the best of life!

The Yosemite Wedding Guide

As I slowly reveal all of the things that I have been working on over the past few months, I am happy to share a collaboration between many of the Yosemite Wedding vendors - the new Yosemite Wedding Guide.

The majority of couples who decide to marry in Yosemite rarely have the chance to be able to visit with various vendors before their wedding. We wanted to do something about that, so we created a place where the local vendors can come together and share their work and insight. You can find useful wedding information from vendors who regularly work in Yosemite - from places to propose to information on the different seasons in the park. As it grows, you can expect to find new articles, advice and weddings shared on a regular basis.

This really is an amazing thing to see so many vendors come together to share their expertise in one place, I am stoked to be a part of it!

I keep saying changes are coming. There has been a lot of behind the scenes planning and work going on as we prepare for this years weddings and I am super excited! Some of the changes have started to make their way to the forefront over that past few weeks, some are a ways off, but today I'm letting another cat out of the bag.

One of the things that I have wanted to do for quite a while is provide free engagement photos. Seriously, I mean free. And none of this "I just got this camera and I think I know how to take a picture" stuff either. I'm talking free shoot and free prints free - the whole enchilada. The only commitment on your part is a commitment to each other (and killer engagement photos)! Expect to visit a few locations over a few hours.

What about the red tape? There are a few guidelines. If you already have another photographer booked for your wedding have them do your engagement photos. I'm not trying to steal clients away from my friends and colleagues. "I like the idea of free photos, but I'm not engaged... can I bring my boyfriend along?" Nope, sorry. This is for couples who are getting married. Finally, there are a limited number of spots available for free engagement photos, only one free session per month.

Angela Porter Band and what I've been up to

It's been almost two months since I have been at a wedding, which is a long time for me. Normally I shoot a wedding almost every other week, if not more frequently. Soon enough I will be right back in the middle of weddings, but not now. Now I am busy working on personal projects of inspiration and planning growth.

As a professional photographer, I'm a huge fan of personal projects as a source of inspiriation. I get to play on my own dime and not be forced into results that others are looking for - it's my show. That's why I constantly hire models for shoots that inspire weddings. So way back in December (do you remember December?) I traveled to LA and photographed the indie Angela Porter Band. Do yourself a favor and check out their sound, I'll wait.

I had spoken with members of the band beforehand and exchanged ideas about the direction for the shoot to develop game plan for the shoot. The plan was to travel into the city at night and work the moody and street lit urban landscape into submission. In my head, I began to work through ideas, looks, complete photographs and I knew this was going to be awesome.

It was only the day before the schedule shoot that we learned we could not go ahead as planned due to a scheduling conflict. Suddenly the only time we had available for the shoot as midmorning in Compton. Alright not what I previously had in mind, but I'm a wedding photographer at heart and I pride myself on my ability to see differently and think on my feet.

We arrived on the day of the shoot to have strong winds greet us, probably a consistent 30mph breeze (read: no lights to be used). Still schedules being what they are, we move forward and find the images. The album was finished but the artwork wasn't. Time to create. Here is what we found:

For you photographers out there, here is the setup shot for the previous image. The band was on the roof of a five story parking structure while I was on a walkway underneath them. I pushed my bare flash as high up and close to them as possible for the coverage and power I needed to get the shot. Remember the wind I mentioned? It came very close to carrying the light to the ground four stories below. Like I caught the light stand as it was blowing over the edge close.

So after the near destruction of a light, the band chooses their favorite photo. You know, the one without the light. Its all about options.

In the end, not one of these photos looked anything like what I had planned on shoot for the band. At the same time, I am proud of my work. New opportunities and new ways to create came up and I took advantage of it.

To come full circle, I am incredibly excited for the future. Never before have I spent so much time behind the scenes planning and creating. Big changes are coming (soon) and new opportunities remain to be explored. Now let's rock the boat.

Art at Savoury's

For those of you local Mariposaians (is that even a word?) when I mention Savoury's, your mouth starts to salivate just a little at thoughts of delicious meals. Since we moved to this area over five years ago, we have enjoyed many a tasty meal with good friends and family here. Savourys' owner Miriam has created her own space in the middle of this little town offering some of the finest food available anywhere. And when she moved into a new building last year, Miriam completely remodeled the interior to fit her exact needs, including bringing in a selection of photographs from the Ansel Adams Gallery. Seriously, how cool is that?

So when I ran into her a few weeks ago and she asked me to display some of my photography at an upcoming event, I looked at her for quite a while before asking if she knew that I only shoot weddings. Even though I shoot weddings as art, I have never heard of displaying wedding image in a gallery setting, especially not the Ansel Adams Gallery.

Finally the night came and the party was here. Miriam created a fine selection of delicious tapas to pair with an assortment of wines, brought by four different wineries including our local Mt. Bullion Winery. I sampled wines from Argentina, Italy, and Spain while visiting with friends old and new. All the while, my wedding prints were proudly hung side by side with prints from the Ansel Adams Gallery.

Visiting Erna's Elderberry House

Since I shot my last booked wedding of the year last weekend, I've been having photography withdrawals. What better cure than join fellow photographer Tanya of Photography from the Heart, pick up the camera and snap a few photos? Today we worked with our wonderful model Rose after Carol of Bellissimo applied the perfect makeup and hair styling. Once ready, we headed up to Erna's Elderberry House for a little photo fun (we really do enjoy what we do). Huge thanks to everyone for their hard work!

Aria and Levi - The full-blown Yosemite experience

It's been a few days since the wedding day, and I've had time to recover from the wedding experience. I spent nearly the whole day with Aria and Levi in Yosemite. Recently I changed all of our packages over to include an unlimited timeframe because it just works better. Seriously, I hated when we were in the photo-groove, making some killer shots, only to realize that we were out of time. Thankfully Aria and Levi took full advantage of this and made the full Yosemite wedding tour and got some rocking photos, some of which I already posted.

One of the weirdest things about my photos from this side of things, is that my favorite photos change as often as the weather - and right now the weather is changing. One day I like this about that photo, and the next day I can't stop looking at a different photo. All of that to say, that had I written this entry a five days ago, I would have had chosen different photos than I did today. And now without further interruption, we return to the main story...

Aria and Levi married last Saturday in Yosemite. The wedding was blessed by nature with great weather, sneaking in between the rain and snow. The sun was out, the trees showing their last hint of fall color and the waterfalls were still flowing. Surrounded by all of this, two families gathered to celebrate the foundation of a new family. Normally when I talk about weddings here, I focus on the love between the bride and groom. But this day it was so much more than that, it was the love between everyone at the wedding.

I met up with Levi first thing in the morning as he was getting ready for the wedding. Since I had not previously met with Aria or Levi, I take everything in pretty quickly to get a feel for the day. Something about these shoes said a lot as to where the day was going.

Meanwhile, just a few doors down Aria was busy getting ready. Amy and Marilyn from Bellissimo Brides started off their day (insanely early) by glamorizing Aria. I think it is pretty clear they know how to do their job.

It's pretty cool when you can have someone who means this much to you marry you.

After the ceremony, we returned to the Yosemite Lodge for their reception. The views out of the mountain room are simply amazing.

I must admit, this in one of the cooler things I have seen done at a wedding reception. Aria and Levi set up a tile painting station for their guest to create a special gift for the bride and groom. Everyone joined in, how cool is that? I love art.

After enjoying a tasty meal, friends and family began to honor the bride and groom with encouragement for the marriage.

After the reception was over, we began our second trip around Yosemite Valley.

When I asked Aria and Levi what Yosemite meant to them and what locations the wanted photos of, they knew Half Dome was near the top of that list. Knowing this, we headed up to Tunnel View to get a great sunset shot of the valley, but nature had a different plan. Clouds how moved into the valley, obscuring Half Dome but casting El Capitian in a beautiful warm glow. I love the changing place the Yosemite is.

After a while of shooting in the dark, we headed over to the Ahwahnne Hotel to make use of the surrounds (and warmth).

As we wrapped up a long day of shooting, we returned to the Yosemite Lodge where their friends had decked out their car for the trip home in true wedding attire.

Sarah and Robert - Yosemite Elopement

Yesterday I joined Sarah and Robert for their wedding day. I say that lightly, but in truth it was a heavy experience. They came to Yosemite and marry by themselves, just the two of them, myself with a camera, and Rev. Autrey Nassar as the officiant. As I have said before, something magical happens when you strip away all the fluff surrounding a wedding and just bring the focus back to the bride and groom, and that's exactly what happened. With no distractions, the love between them was thick, I just tried my best not to get in their way.

For the majority of the day while we traveled through the park to create photographs, it was just the three of us. After we met up at the Ahwahnee, and I drove through the park pulling over anytime I saw the light working (which was basically everywhere).

It wasn't too long before I started to get a little crazy with the camera. Perhaps I'm still feeling the halloween thing...

Although they gave me complete artistic freedom, there were a few spots that Sarah and Robert knew they wanted a photo at, and you can't beat this view! As a side note, I am always amazed by how cool tourists are with us taking over a popular spot like this. While most are hustling and shoving to get a chance to snap a photo, everyone moved aside to give the bride and groom their chance. I love Yosemite!

After traveling around the valley for a while, we returned to the Ahwahnee to the perfect spot that Sarah and Robert had scoped out, their own private Yosemite, for the ceremony.

During the ceremony, as they exchanged their own heartfelt-unscripted vows with each other, both Autrey and I stepped away and suddenly it was just them. No microphones, no band, no crowds. Just them and Yosemite. It was a beautiful sight to see them stand by themselves and profess their complete love for each other.

After the ceremony, we headed back inside to sign the marriage license. I say we, because I was not only the photographer but also the witness. How cool is that? Once that was completed, we took a few minutes to create a few more photos.

This shot was ~~greatly inspired by~~ flat-out-ripped-off from DJ Ellis of La Bella Vita Photography (I told you I was going to steal this great idea).

We ended the day with one final shot before Sarah and Robert enjoyed their first dinner together as husband and wife at the Ahwahnee. Congratulations again, you guys are amazing!

Jennifer and Bryan - Yosemite Engagement

I first met Jennifer almost a year ago shortly after Bryan proposed to her. They were in the earliest stages of planning their wedding and were interested in my photography. It was only after talking with them for quite a while over the phone, that Bryan sprung the fact that he is also a professional photographer on me (nice one Bryan)!

When it came time for the engagement session, I gave them complete and total freedom to choose a location that fit their style. Somehow I imagined shooting an urban feel someplace in Fresno or even near their home in Visalia. But after talking with them a bit more, they revealed their love of nature and how much they feel at home in the mountains.

So last Sunday we met up just outside of Yosemite and jumped in my car for a quick Yosemite tour. On the way to Yosemite Valley, our conversation started off with their wedding plans, but quickly spilled into everyday life. And truth be told, even though I was in the drivers seat, I really had no specific place in mind to take them to. I was driving with one eye always out the window looking for the perfect light.

Once we made our way into the valley, it seemed like I stopped the car every quarter mile (hey, I'm driving so I can do that) to soak up the fall colors. Thankfully, nature was on our side to create these fall engagement photos.

If you know me, you know how much I love to shoot in water. Unfortunately, the water here is cold, like really cold, so I put Jennifer and Bryan in the water instead.

We continued to milk every last ray of susnet on our slow progression to the Ahwahnee.

Once we got the Ahwahnee, the photos took on a different look as stone walls replaced falling leaves.

After all of this, it was a short ride back with my new friends Jennifer and Bryan. It's still almost a year until their wedding, but I have such high expectations already. Thanks for sharing such and amazing afternoon with me and I can't wait for the wedding! You guys rock!

Terry and Cary - Glacier Point Lovin'

Terry and Cary married last Thursday at Glacier Point. Words cannot describe the inspiring view from that vantage, it sure seems to me to be one of the most amazing places to wed. If you have been to Glacier Point, you know what I am talking about, if not, you need to go.

They gathered in Yosemite with close friends and family from across the country to celebrate their wedding. For many of their guests, it was the first time they had been to Yosemite. Thankfully, as we traveled through the park and Wawona Hotel, the weather was perfect and presented a beautiful day.

I had the pleasure of driving Terry and Cary for the day and getting to know them throughout our adventures. Let's just say Terry and Cary are totally in love with each other and are destined for many happy adventures. It really is a blessing of my job to get to know so many wonderful people at such and important step in their lives.

We started off the morning bright and early with Carol of Bellissimo Brides working her magic.

From their, we headed back up to the Wawona Hotel where they prepared for the wedding.

Once ready, we headed out for a few shots near the hotel before heading up to Glacier Point for the ceremony.

Upon arriving at Glacier Point, I was once again blown away by the majestic views and scenery.

Kirk Moulin' music provided the finishing touch on the ceremony.

Reverend Autrey Nassar officiated a simple and inspiring ceremony.

After the short trip back down to the hotel, everyone enjoyed the staff's hospitality and delicious food.

Everyone enjoyed the amazing food and each others company through the night.

Sweet Dreams Cakery provided the flowers and tasty cake.

We ended a superfun day and night with one last shot before I left Terry and Cary for the night... congratulations again!

Julia and Beau - The party goes on!

Julia and Beau's wedding was simply an amazing experience. Good friends and close knit family joined them to be by their sides on one of the most important days of their lives. The ceremony was at the Abundant Life Center in Tulare with the reception at Beau's grandparents home just nearby. All day long life and excitement radiated off Julia and Beau. Their love for each other and their family was inspiring. In the end, it was an amazing day that started off amongst close friends and family, and ended in the same way.

Looking like this before the ceremony is the surefire way to get a reaction from your future-husband as you walk down the aisle.

Meanwhile the Beau and his groomsmen gathered in the church office to prepare for the ceremony.

A beautiful candlelit ceremony provided the necessary intimate setting for their wedding.

After the ceremony, we headed back outside to shoot in the fields and trees.

When you have a group of ball players, what else can you do?

With one of the coolest reception entrances, each couple got down on their way in.

After the reception, the bridal party jumped back into the party bus to make way to a second party. These guys know how to celebrate!

Once we got to the cocktail party at the Marriott I made sure to bust out the camera and get photos in a completely different setting that earlier... like a bellhop's cart.

We ended the night with one last kiss between a man and his bride. Congratulations again Beau and Julia, we wish you the best life has to offer!

Kyra and Matthew - Yosemite Wedding

You may remember Kyra and Matthew from their engagement photos. I know I do. Their infectious love for each other and laid back style is impossible to forget. Add in 160 of their friends and family, eight pairs of Van's shoes, a perfect day in Yosemite, and a rocking party and you get one crazy cool wedding. They decided to have their wedding at the Ahwahnee in Yosemite Valley and nature cooperated. A few days earlier heavy rain drenched the valley - a few days later heavy snow covered it. Their day was perfect. Their ceremony was on the lawn at the Ahwahnee with their reception taking up what seemed like half of the hotel. Despite the amazing scenery and beautiful hotel, it was the simple love between and a man and a woman that was truly beautiful and amazed us all. The perfect shoes for any occasion. Having friends who are professional makeup artists and hair stylists pays off at your wedding. Seriously stunning bride. I love the smile on her father's face. It's the smile of knowing your daughter is going to be in perfect hands. The staff at the Ahwahnee kept bringing delicious little treats for everyone to enjoy. With the enrgy of this party, it seemed like they had been held back and itching to dance all night long. Pete of the Spinheads kept the house bumping. We wrapped up the evening with a short break from the dance floor to enjoy the architecture of the Ahwahnee one last time, as Kyra and Matthew cuddled the night away. Huge thanks goes out to the crew - Katie, James, and Aryn - you guys rock!

Savanah and Chris - Serious Romance

Somehow, despite all of the stories of the crazy bridezillas, I am blessed to work with the most amazing couples. Last Saturday's wedding with Savanah and Chris was no exception. With two of the happiest, luckiest-to-have-each-other, best-friends, all around beautiful people - plus and amazing wedding venue (lakeside ceremony and reception) and great friends and family, it was an awesome day. Katie and I joined them on their wedding day and had a blast. Savanah and Chris have known each other since their high school days. They are both incredible athletes and are driven through life. Savanah looked stunning. Chris (whose nickname is goofy) is a romantic who continued to surprise everyone - including his wife - throughout the night - with his personal touches on the wedding. Savanah had the help of her best friends before the wedding. Their ceremony was short, only about ten minutes. It was stripped down to the purest part, their personal vows to each other. After the ceremony we all enjoyed dinner courtesy of Savanah's father and the Kelly Brothers Brewing Company. Friends and family shared thoughts, memories, and advice for Savanah and Chris' new life together. I stole Savanah and Chris away for a few moments to catch the last rays of light in the valley. They shared their first dance in their own little world. I had no idea that they were such amazing dancers! They put on an unannounced dancing show for the guests. Sometimes cake goes down smoothly, sometimes the cake flies. Tonight the cake flies. In the middle of the reception, Chris grabbed a microphone to announce that he was going to share a song for his bride. He played a heartfelt rendition of Grow Old With You to his wife's delight. If serenading your bride isn't enough, Chris put together a slideshow detailing the history of their relationship for their guests. It was at this point, that he also revealed that he had a friend secretly videotape their engagement on Catalina by playing back the video tape. Love comes full circle. Dave of TNJ Digital DJ rocked the night away. I heard later that the party went on until 2 AM. These people know how to celebrate! Once again, for the last shot of the night I set myself up for some serious photoshop work. This photo taken when it was way dark outside and with only one light. I keep experimenting, learning, having fun and loving the possibilities! Our best wishes go out to Chris and Savanah once again!

Lorena and JJ - Wedding Love, Salinas Style

You just never know how a wedding is going to turn out. I knew that there were amazing plans in store for this wedding. I knew that a mariachi band would play throughout the day. I knew that a full live band would take us through the night. I did not know that I would take the bride and groom into an historical movie theater. I did not know that I would take the bridal party into the stands of the Salinas Sports Complex. I did not know I would have this much fun at a wedding! Lorena first heard about us from a co-worker of hers (huge thanks Josy!) that we had the pleasure of working with about five years ago. From the first moments that we were together on their wedding day, it was obvious that Lorena and JJ had planned their own special touches for their wedding. We all had a blast working together and it was an amazing celebration! A stunningly beautiful church! A stunningly beautiful bride! While walking through old town Salinas, we fell upon the Fox Theater, originally built in 1921. I could have spent all day in there, but unfortnately we had less than five minutes. Big thanks to David of the Fox Theater for letting us in! Lots of great words and touching stories surrounded Lorena and JJ. Of course our good friend Tequila made a couple of appearances. These guys ROCKED the room like no other. Here's a sign your having a good party - when the room just can't contain it! For the last shot of the night, I wanted to try something different. This group shot is composed of a about 12 individual shots of the various couples taken alone. If you know me, you know how much I hate to use photochop, but sometimes there's no other way. In my head, I knew how to make it work but had never actually tried anything like this before. But I've always said that a wedding, under pressure, is the perfect place to push yourself and experiment. Do you like it? When I met JJ for the first time at the wedding, he confessed to spending hours on my website looking through our work with admiration and made me promise that his photos would be on my website as well. This one is for you guys!

Samantha and Geoff - Yosemite after dark

Samantha and Geoff traveled from Sydney Australia to marry in Yosemite. As far as I know, thats just about as far as someone can travel to get married. They were joined by Samatha's longtime friend Lindessa who drove up from Palm Springs just for the wedding (and back down after it was over)! After finalizing a time and location, we decided on having the wedding in a meadow just behind the Yosemite Chapel as the sun set behind El Capitan. We met for the first time Tuesday afternoon and she looked stunning, just ask Geoff! Earlier in the afternoon Samantha had gone to Bellissimo Brides to have have her hair done and it looked amazing. Reverend Carol Dewey officaiated the ceremony which was simple and beautiful. I have really come to love elopements--they are like a full blown wedding stripped down to the core, the love between a husband and wife. There was absolutely nothing to distract from the love of these two. But in this case, there was another little girl present, their soon-to-come daughter Winter who held her own special place in the ceremony. Have I mentioned I love what I do? Samantha took a little longer to arrive than planned, but that just us more time to hang out and get to know Geoff. In case you are wondering, Geoff = very cool guy. A spot just behind the Yosemite Chapel became the perfect sport for the union. I love the simple representation of an amazing point in her life. Such peace. It's amazing how something so simple as a pair of shoes can capture personality. Passion. We stopped to enjoy the last of the daylight as it slipped behind the horizon. Once we got rid of all traces of daylight, things got interesting :) Shooting in the forest in complete darkness is not the easiest thing to pull off, but I always enjoy a good challenge. Fortunately, Samantha and Geoff ROCKED these shots! Yeah, we were still taking photos late into the evening (think starlight). I was exhausted to say the least, but the result was well worth the work!

Mieke and Davide -A San Francisco Wedding Italian Style

Mieke met Davide while she was living in Italy where she lived two years. When she returned to Virginia to complete her PHD program, Davide came with her. Together they planned their San Francisco wedding from Virginia. Just a few weeks ago they moved back to Mieke's hometown of San Francisco. With their traveling of traveling, it was fitting that we travel around San Francisco on the day of their wedding to take photos in a few of their favorite locations. Their wedding was filled with unique touches, from the interfaith ceremony to the killer red Ferrari. But the coolest thing about Mieke and Davide's wedding was Mieke and Davide. Their honest love and open hearts were poured out for each other and touched everyone around them. It was amazing hearing their friends and family talk about these two and the influences that they have had on others lives and it reminded me that I have a awesome job! We started off the day at the Palace of Fine Arts, one of my favorite places in all of California. After a while we traveled to Alamo Square to take advantage of the views and classic San Francisco style. Davide, who happens to be the most personable guy I know, made friends with everyone along the way and dragged many of them in front of the camera with him. Upon sighting these officers, Davide approached them and asked if we could all take a shot together. Thanks again officers! The next stop on our agenda was the Civic Center. Following in Italian tradition, their guests greeted Mieke and Davide with cheers as they arrived to the Fort Mason Chapel in a Ferrari. After the ceremony everyone walked down to the Golden Gate Room for the reception. Mieke brought a selection of her favorite wines from Virginia with her for the wedding. DJ Wayne Noel of Golden State Productions mixed all night long for us. I've had the pleasure of working with him many times before and I know it will always be a rocking party with him! The toasts were honest celebrations of the love between Mieke and Davide given by longtime friends and family member from Italy bring both cheers and tears. Did I mention they had a Ferrari?

Rebecca and Aaron - Part Two - The Crazybooth

As much fun as their wedding was, Rebecca and Aaron's wedding reception was a bit crazy! Instead of the "boring-no-fun-at-all" table shots, we brought along the Crazybooth for their wedding giving their guests a real chance to express themselves in one of a kind photos. Everyone had a blast as the crazybooth took on a life of its own throughout the night. It was the perfect touch for the wedding. I love this shot of Rebecca and her grandparents! So much love! Every wedding needs a piñata! Through talking with him, we descovered next year he's going to attend our Alma Mater, Westmont College. I think I might have to contact some old friends and get this photo on his student ID. Great food cooked up by Sierra Smokehouse! These guys couldn't be stopped from enjoying the corn to take a photo! So much love!

Rebecca and Aaron - Part One - The Wedding

Last Saturday, Rebecca and Aaron took their friends and family up to Tenaya Lake in Yosemite for their wedding ceremony. Beautiful does not begin to describe the surroundings -- high country Yosemite with perfect weather. It's a bit surreal to be at 8000 feet and beachside. But it was the absolute perfect place for Rebecca and Aaron to marry. Rebecca and Aaron felt no need to tie themselves to the supposed traditions of marriage. Instead of a flowing white dress, she wore an amazingly beautiful blue dress that look awesome on her. Instead of chairs and pews, their guests simply gathered around them for an intimate beach wedding. Instead of the fluff surrounds the wedding, they had each other -- and it was all they needed. Rebecca and Aaron did one of the coolest things I've seen at a wedding. At the reception, they had each of the guests write down a bit of wedding wisdom and various cards numbered 1-50 and seal them in a envelope. For each anniversary they are going to open an envelope and read a card. What a great way to stop and remember one of the greatest days of your life! Tenaya Lake doesn't offer 5 star accomdations. Becca hid behind a small building to prepare for the wedding It was short hike to the ceremony spot. Yes, it really was this beautiful! I love the color the sky takes at this elevation! One of my favorite shots from the wedding by Katie! Weddings hardly go as planned, but having a car die on you while you're an hour from the reception, not good. Even a broken down car couldn't stop their joy! A bit late beacause of the car, but we made it back for a great backyard reception. Check back tomorrow for Part 2 - the Crazybooth!

The Stones - Family portraits my way

The Stone family has been asking me for quite a while to shoot some family portraits for them. They have been fans of my work here and on Facebook for some time and keep envisioning my take on their family photos. The Stones spend much of their family time outdoors in some fashion (horseback riding, boating, fishing) and it's been hot outside, so I planned an afternoon swim / photo session at the river. Now if you've worked with me before, you probably realize that on most photo shoots I end up in the nearest body of water in search of the perfect frame. On this shoot both Katie and I ended up treading water in the middle of a river to get the angle and light just right - I love my wife! It really worked well to bring out the individual personalities of the family that a traditional shoot would leave behind. In my head, I knew I should have a "safe" family photo before things got too crazy, as I knew they quickly would. This shot was basically just a setup for the next shot. I told the couple to stand in the water, focus only on each other, and enjoy the moment. What they didn't know is that I had already told the kids to splash them on the count of three. The couple never saw it coming :) This shot just screams summertime fun to me. The spot in the river we went to has a perfect jumping rock that we all (and yes, I am included) took turns jumping off of. A superfun shot of all three boys jumping off of the rock at the same time. We closed off the night with a slightly more unique family portrait compared to where we started! Thanks again guys!

Kyra and Matthew - Yosemite Engagement

Kyra and Matthew visit Yosemite every year for a week with a group of friends and family (this year close to 50). They both have a great love for the outdoors and Yosemite in particular, so it was only natural for them to marry in the valley. Their wedding is coming up quickly, but during their vacation I met up with them for a quick engagement session. Although I had met them once before (their was a couple of feet of snow on the ground back then) and talked with them at great length, I really didn't know for sure what direction the photos were going to take. Everyone has a different reaction to having a camera pointed at them -- some shy up, some act up, some tense up. Kyra and Matthew loved up. Just because we're in Yosemite doesn't mean we have to stay outdoors all day. One of my favorites from the day, exactly as it was in camera. How'd the rocks get in the sky? I love the way the water soaked up this light! Can you tell they're in love? I had a wonderful time with Kyra and Matthew as we traveled through the park that afternoon. I can't wait for the wedding!

Jennifer and Chris - Wedding

It seems like a lifetime ago when we first met Jennifer and Chris to shoot their engagement photos. It was actually only a little over a year ago, but that's a long time to wait to meet up with old friends again. Jennifer has been planning the wedding for quite a while and had her heart set on the perfect location - the Legion of Honor. Delicious food from McCall Catering and a great DJ ensured a great party. We started off the day near South San Francisco shortly before a bumping ride with the bridal party in the party bus. Warning, if you are likely to get motion sickness, starring through the view finder of your camera as you bounce down the road the the back of a party bus for half an hour may not be the best idea... Perhaps the best part of this photo is what happened immediately after the photo was shot. Notice how the bridesmaid to the right of the bride looks like she might lose her balance? Well guess what happens next! What an amazing place for a ceremony! In the middle of taking photos, Ivailo from McCall Catering came out with a special delivery of food and chapange for Jennifer and Chris - class. Jennifer and Chris took a few moments to enjoy a glass of wine together as the sun went down. Inside, Amy Burke Designs created beautiful floral arrangements and centerpieces. One thing is for sure, this group knew how to throw a party! Perhaps the silliest ring shot I've ever taken, but I love it. Congratulations again Jennifer and Chris, your wedding day was amazing!

The land underground - Chaaktun

Although I had never been to Playa Del Carmen, Katie had been there before a few years back and was itching to go back. While describing the local area to me, she told me about a cenote and the importance it held to the Mayans. Instantly I had ideas in my head of a bride floating through the water of a cave and put a plan in motion. I contacted a local model named Valeria who was interested in my ideas and agreed to work with me. I was a bit nervous, as I honestly had no idea what I was getting into and wasn't sure what would come out of it. I had even started to have second thoughts about it and just doing a shoot on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean to "play it safe". When we met in Mexico, my model Valeria couldn't have been more helpful and professional, especially in such a "photo unfriendly" environment. We decided on Chaaktun Cenote, which in Mayan means "rain of stone". While the cool of the cave and the water was refreshing compared to the heat of the day, it wasn't quite warm in a wet wedding dress. Once we were set up, Valeria was amazing! At one point she remarked on how much equipment I brought with me and that she was amazed that it was all waterproof. I had a good laugh at the waterproof bit as I swam around holding a camera and lights precariously above the waterline trying not to think of the cost of a camera dip. I think it might be time for a waterproof housing. In the end, the shoot was far more difficult that I imagined but incredibly rewarding. Being able to work in such a beautiful and unique location with such a cultural significance was amazing. At one point I almost felt like turing the camera off and simply staring into the cave in awestruck stupor. If you ever find yourself in the Yuactan, you really owe it to yourself to check out a cenote such as Chaaktun. I love my job.

A much needed vacation!

Yesterday was a long day. I woke up with before the sun, loaded up in the car, traveled on three airplanes through a few time zones, loaded back up in the car and drove until today. But it's okay -- I'm still living on the buzz of a great vacation. For the past week, Katie, Tyler, Sophie and I have been in Playa Del Carmen Mexico with her parents enjoying a much needed break from the workload. We stayed in first class accommodations and spent most of our time exploring the local area. Tyler spent about 12 hours of each day swimming in the pools and ocean (he takes after his father) as we relaxed as a family. We visited Xel-Ha and Xcaret -- both amazing places that simply would not exist in the states. Imagine going to a water park where a sign pointed off a cliff and told you to jump into the water below (what lifeguard or saftey rail?). I love Mexico! As we traveled, I kept my camera close by as I was constantly inspired by new sights and people. I think Katie got tired of hearing me say "I gotta get a shot of this! Melissa and Rick - A Yosemite Wedding

Melissa and Rick chose a memorable day to be married- Father's day. They gathered with close friends and family to celebrate at the Ahwahnee in Yosemite Valley and had a ceremony in the shadows of Half Dome. Their wedding was full of unique and personal touches, but their love spread across everyone and everything. Once again, James Steed shot with me throughout the day and helped me keep my head on my shoulders! These little guys were waiting outside of Melissa's room while all the girls got dressed. They tried their best to be patient... Mystery and intrigue, or just cover model? It really is hard to find a place more breathtaking than this to have a ceremony! Melissa and Rick had an amazing bridal party who did everything possible to help out. What great friends! The Solarium at the Ahwahnee is simply a beautiful room with expansive views of the surrounding valley. In the middle of the reception, Rick shocked us all with his voice as he sung directly to his new wife who simply closed her eyes and soaked it in. After the reception, we took Melissa and Rick through the park for a photo shoot. A beautiful shot of Melissa, the bride/fashion model. You should have seen the contorted position I put myself in. Actually, I'm surprised James didn't get a shot of it to blackmail me with. Big thanks again to Melissa and Rick - I wish that your adventures never end!

Shannon and John - The big day!

What can I say, my brother and sister got married! Well, my sister-in-law (I still think of her as my sister) married a man who is now my brother-in-law-by-marriage (I prefer to think of him as my brother!) You may remember Shannon and John from their engagement photos last year in the river. They had a beautiful and intimate lakeside wedding in her parents backyard. The family really came together and helped with every little detail to create an amazing. Carol of Bellissimo Brides did a beautiful job with Shanon's hair and makeup. Reverend Autrey Nassar officiated the simple ceremony that focused on the love between Shannon and John -- tears flowed and love was thick. And somehow, despite me making them swim during their engagement photos, they let me photograph their wedding. The funny thing was that much like their engagement photos, we planned on taking pictures in Yosemite. But one thing lead to another.... Shannon was making changes to her vows right up until the last minute. Shannon's dog was never too far away at any time. Tyler, my son, was the flower boy and having a blast all day. I love the way this picture captures the humor and love of this man at the same time. Just remember: If you brother is taking the photos at your wedding, keep an eye on your dress or it may be hung precariously from a tree swinging in the wind. Thankfully it didn't fall in the dirt :) A perfect day and location for the perfect ceremony. John learned how to look like a tough guy. Shannon and John first met while working in a local grocery store. So when we decided to skip Yosemite, they wanted to take a photo at the grocery store. Did they know I would make them get into a shopping cart to do that? As the day wound down, we all met at our favorite local restaurant Savoury's for a delicious dinner in great company. Sheri and Bo - Yosemite Engagement Session

Bo proposed to Sheri exactly 366 days ago in Yosemite. Every year they make a trip to Yosemite valley and enjoy a week of refuge from the city in natural surroundings. Since they are planning their wedding for next year in Yosemite, it was only right for them to have their engagement photos in Yosemite. They are a fun loving couple with a strong appreciation for art and nature, and an uncanny ability to trust their photographer! I met up with them yesterday afternoon in Yosemite and we spent the afternoon traveling around the park and creating photos. We took photos at some of the classic Yosemite spots like Half Dome and Yosemite Falls, but also took the time to hike and get out to less traveled placed. Thankfully the rain that was forecast never really came, but left dramatic clouds hovering in the sky. Eventually we made it up to Tuolomne Meadows and even Tenaya Lake just before sunset. Sheri really loved these soft shots. When we first met up, I asked them if they enjoyed hiking around. Not knowing what it would get them into, they told me yes. Here they were after a short hike near Olmstead Point. Thanks again Sheri and Bo for such a fun afternoon!

Zuleika and Stuart - Yosemite Elopement

Zuleika and Stuart came from Scotland to marry in Yosemite valley. They are truly beautiful people, both inside and out. John Paris officiated a beautiful ceremony in the shadows of Yosemite Falls and embraked on a photo safari from there. They wanted the photos to be geared more towards art and gave me free range to create. Together we travel through Yosemite, experiencing different light, lines and even weather :) We eventually found ourselves up at Tenya Lake and Olmstead Point to enjoy the breath taking views. I love what I do! I only found out after taking this photo that Stuart is in a band - although I should have known he was a rockstar from this photo. Yes, they are in the photo. So much love and contentment in these arms. Zuleika's dress was gorgeous. Beautiful colors and textures. One of my favorites from the day, it made a long drive very worthwhile!

Natalie and Matthew - Yosemite Wedding

Natalie and Matthew were married on May 29th in the Yosemite Chapel and finalized the paperwork on their new home at the same time. Just as they were getting ready before the ceremony, the phone call came in that they had to meet with a notary to seal the deal. Matthew has a long standing history with Search and Rescue (yet another reason I like him!) and had a fellow SAR member officiate the ceremony. They both have an incredible love of nature and Yosemite and were blessed to have such an amazing group of friends and family join them for the wedding. Together they worked through the stressful moments of the day, shared laughter, and celebrated at the Ahwahnee. Later on in the day, the Crazybooth came out for some fun photos. Katie and I both had a great time working with them and making new friends throughout the day. I've had this shot in mind since I shot my first wedding at the Ahwahnee, but this is the first time I have found this booth empty during a wedding! Coarsegold Flower Shop provided the beautiful bouquets. This wedding had some of the best toasts I have ever heard - a true tribute to the bride and groom!

Yuanli and Henry - Yosemite Elopement

I really am blessed to do what I do for a living. I love meeting new people as they embark on a new stage of their lives together. Everyone has such a unique and interesting story of what makes them them. Yesterday I joined Yuanli and Henry to photograph their wedding in Yosemite. It was the first time they had been to the park - they decided to marry here based simply on photographs! They had a touchingly simple and pure ceremony in a meadow on the riverbank in the shadows of Half Dome. Shortly afterwords, we strolled through the park together to create photographic memories of their day. They were fun, playful and most of all, in love. By stripping the wedding day down to its essentials, Yuanli and Henry were able to focus on the most important things - each other.

Wow! What a fun wedding! Jennifer and James were married on Saturday at Paradise Springs - a beautiful resort near Yosemite. The wedding was wrapped in nature, which perfectly matched Jennifer and James. The detail work was amazing, from Belissimo Bride's hair and makeup to a horse drawn carriage for the bride to a candy car with chocolate fountain. Rarely have I had such a difficult time choosing a selection of photos for the blog, there are so many wonderful shots from the wedding. So much beauty and so much emotion! James and Katie both shot with me throughout the day and helped create a wedding video (more touching moments coming soon!). We had an amazing time at the wedding, beautiful scenery, great food, and wonderful people. Jennifer was on top of the details as she got ready. Her two-way radio was never out of reach. Last year I had the pleasure of of photographing Stephanie and Joe's wedding at Copper River Country Club in Fresno. Shortly after the wedding they shared their love of the wedding photos and the possiblity of doing an after the wedding shoot -- giving us much more freedom on locations and time. Yesterday afternoon finally became the day for us, as we traveled around Mariposa from abandoned building to waterfall to creek and had a blast. It really was a "photo adventure" (Stephanie and Joe will testify to this) as we searched out the best spots. I love the simplicity of these photos, and how they reflect their beauty and love for each other -- the natural environment matches them and envelopes them in their own little paradise.

Blues and Brews Festival

A few weeks ago I had the chance to work with CASA of Mariposa at the Blues and Brews Festival in Mariposa. CASA is a non profit that works hard to ensure that children that are in foster care are not abandoned in the legal system. Each CASA worker takes their time to spend with children one on one because they love and look out for children. It really is a life changing organization. I brought our Crazybooth setup to the festival to take photos of "children of all ages" which we printed on site to make Mother's Day cards. Everyone who came through, from infants to grandmothers and musicians love it. I had an amazing time meeting new friends all day long. And of course, being at a Blues Festival I had to sneak away for a bit to take some shots of my favorite performers...

Recently I have been doing nothing but editing videos. When it clicks, I love it, theres just something about the way a good video tells a story. But sometimes for me editing those stories is like pulling teeth. Add to that my self imposed perfectionism (is that a word?) and it can be downright difficult. Enter Genghis and Flower. They had one of the most touch and heartfelt weddings that I have ever been a part of. A small, intimate ceremony with their family reaching out and offering tender words of wisdom during the ceremony. A simple and beautiful reception along the San Francisco shoreline. They knew what was important to them and created the perfect wedding. And to top it off, Stevie Wonder could see that these two are in love. Their wedding video follows the beauty of the day, but alas, it's just too long. My highly edited shortened version is still over 10 beautiful minutes long, so what to do? Keep chopping. So tonight I made this. It flowed right out of me and I like it. I'm not sure what it is, but I know its on a different planet compared to the rest of the video. I think I started out to make a short "coming soon" feature but got carried away. What do you think?

Shooting for sanity

Recently I have been doing nothing but editing video. In other words, too much time in front of a computer instead of being behind the camera working the creative juices. Thankfully, for my sanity, last week I worked with Carol of Bellissimo Brides and two other local photographers, Tanya of Photography From the Heart and Carrie Lynn. Again, its always a blast to work with other photographers as we each see the same scene through a different set of eyes. Carol worked hard all morning (perhaps before the sun rose?) to create these amazing looks for three models. All I can say about Carol is that she's amazing. I've had the pleasure of working with her on a few weddings (many more to come) and she delvers every time. If your getting married in the Yosemite area and you need hair and makeup, you need to call Carol. 'nuff said. This shoot was really geared towards a fashion forward look and not traditional wedding photography. A bit urban, a bit fashion, and a lot of attitude. Working with our amazing models Stephanie, Ashley, and Melanie made it easy. I love days like this! Thanks again to everyone involved for your hard work!

Amber on the Pier

Last week was a lot busier than it was supposed to be. Originally, Katie and I planned on taking a vacation for a few days with the family and travel down the California coast on our way to Los Angeles to spend time with my family for the holiday. We had dreams of beautiful sunsets, hikes, and surf on the coast -- what we got was instead rain. With our tails between our legs, we headed to LA faster that we planned. In town with a few extra days, I quickly arranged a few shoots. This is a session we did with Amber at the Santa Monica Pier. Once again, Natalie Eaton did an amazing makeup job. Amber was great - simply amazing in front of the camera and was willing to stay out all night and shoot with us. It's a mixture of different styles and looks, but I love it all. As I look through the images now, I'm reminded of an eclectic album where every song is different than the one before. Big thanks again to Amber!

Lisa and Drew in Yosemite!

Yesterday I had the chance to second shoot Lisa and Drew's Yosemite wedding with Krystal Preciado. It was a blast to work with her because our photography styles are different in many ways - Krystal loves to work in the natural available light, I like to work with any available light. Because I was not the primary photographer, I had tons of freedom to play around and try out different ideas I've had in my mind. And to top it all of was the love of Lisa and Drew. I love the look of amazement in his eyes as he catches the first glimpse of his bride entering the Chapel and the heartfelt embraces after the ceremony. The dance floor took on a crazy life of its own. Thanks again guys! Lisa ROCKED this shot! This is the most "James Bond" photo I have ever shot. Daniel Craig anyone? This lens definetly needs to come out of my bag more often! Such a romantic feel! Yeah, it's blurry, but I love it. Who said every shot had to be perfectly sharp?

Jeanine and Lyle contacted me last week very interested in maternity photos before the birth of their first son Kenith. She had seen April and Chris' maternity shoot that I had done last year and had heard great things about our service from them and really wanted me to shoot her photos. Sounding a bit like a broken record, I explained to her that I approach maternity photos with a bit more of a fashion eye than other photographers - and she loved the idea. We talked a bit more and worked out the details and she shared some great ideas for photos she had. Given that she is eight months pregnant I wanted to get to shooting as quickly as possible, so we setup a time and got to work. Jeanine and Lyle had this photo in mind before they even picked up the phone to call me. I love the personal touches scattered throughout! I took over their living room and turned it into a studio for slightly more traditional maternity photos. I have a habit of getting very excited about photos as they pop into the viewfinder and I ofter share them with my clients to help them understand what we are creating together. When Jeanine and Lyle first saw these the first word to escape their lips was "editorial". To me, it's all about options. That's how I do a maternity shoot. Congratulations again Jeanine and Lyle, I had a blast working with you. And don't forget to send a photo of Kennith!

Ollie - More Senior Portraits?

On Monday, I shot senior portraits for both Ollie and Hannah at the same time. Each really does deserve a separate post because of the different individual looks - and that's what I love about them. The pictures of both Ollie and Hannah were taken moments apart in the exact same locations, but its hard to know that just from looking at the photos. Also, Ollie's personality carries through very differently in the photos than Hannah's - and it should, they're two different people!

After three failed attempts for Hannah, Ollie and I to get together for a senior session over the past few weeks, we finally made it happen on Monday. I just finished Hannah's photos, but Ollie's will be up shortly as well. When Hannah and I first sat down to discuss how she wanted the photos to look, it became apparent that she trusted me entirely to work my magic (I love it when this happens!). Together we decided to go closer to a fashion look than a traditional "smile-at-the-camera" senior portrait--and it was an excellent choice. Hannah rocked these photos. We spent most of our time wandering around bridges and the river in downtown Mariposa, walking until we found the right place. I love the urban looks we were able to create in such a "scenic" part of the state.

Patrick and Christine - Now in HD!

This was posted earlier, but I just upgraded the video quality to High Definition, making enough improvement to warrant another post! Earlier this year Patrick and Christine got married at the Mountain Terrace in Woodside. It was my second time there recently, but this time I was armed with my video equipment. Patrick is an excellent photographer in his own right, and had Cameron Ingalls do the still work for the day, so I relaxed and focused movie making. Patrick and Christine have so much love and youth it was infectious. Rarely do I see a bride and groom become the stars of the dance floor the way they did. The friends and family gather were treated to a wonderful showcase wedding with their over the top personalities all night long. Thankfully, this made the job of creating the perfect wedding film for them easy for me.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to work with some other top names in the photo world in Sacramento. Tracy of Firefly Mobile Studios and Caroline and Daniel of Tinywater Photography arranged for a photographer's play day -- a chance for us to all work out new ideas that have been floating around in our heads -- with two beautiful models. Raquel of Image Provocateur provided the finishing touches -- hair and makeup. It was a relaxing day of working together and sharing tips and tricks. Although we worked in the same urban environment, I really enjoyed the different perspective that everyone brought to the same scene and I am looking forward to seeing everyone's work!

Fashion in and out of the studio

Once again, I took on a fashion shoot a few weeks ago. Much of the work was done a studio, but we also had time to get outside and take advantage of some local buildings (between rain showers). Natalie Eaton once again rocked the makeup with some crazy styles while the girls pushed out new looks. This time we really went for some tighter details and more textured locations - I loved the results! Many thanks to the models and artists who worked so hard throughout the day!

Sports photos

I'm a guy and I love sports. Truthfully though, I don't enjoy watching sports nearly as much as I do playing sports. Just watching is too boring for me - I want to get right in the middle of the action. My hometown Mariposa Women's JV Basketball team is coached by my father in law, so it was only natural that I do some portraits for the team. Before the shoot I was debating "how far out there" I should take the portraits. I wanted to create photos that screamed action. The ideas that I had in my mind were no where close to the traditional sports photos I got as a kid and I hoped everyone would be on board with me once they received the photos. When the day came, I set up my equipment in the basketball gym during a practice and rotated the players in front of the camera one at a time. I imagine it must have been hard for them to trust me and not do the same "kneeling with the ball" pose that has been done for the last 85 years or so, but as the images popped in the viewfinder, I knew I had made the right decision.

I can't even do a traditional team photo. Finally, the team asked to do a fun photo and asked me for suggestions. I told them to get their coach to lay down on the floor and gather around them. I may not be invited over for Christmas next year! In the end, I created the images just about as they were in my head. A photo that actually looks like it belongs on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and not a cheezy fake SI cover. Thankfully once they saw the photos, the team and parents were equally pleased. And now it's time to get back to weddings...

Winter time at the beach

Originally, I am a beach guy. I grew up near the beaches of LA and surfed every day and love every minute of it. As I got older, I moved from the beaches to the mountains, but the ocean still holds a special place in my heart. For a long time, I have been trying to set up a shoot on one of my favorite beaches, Manhattan Beach. In my high school days, I surfed there almost every afternoon.

I wanted to do a shoot here because I love the combination of pier and sky. Luckily, the weather was a perfect 75 degrees (no wonder I am happy to be on the beach), the tide was low, and the sky was beautiful. So after a little surfing, tacos, and beer, we got to shooting.

Shooting Fashion

Even though my photography is generally geared towards weddings, I have been doing more and more fashion shoots lately and love them. Yesterday we did a shoot specifically for a makeup artist to show off her mad skills. The entire shoot was in the downtown area of Mariposa and we all had a blast. I love the looks the makeup inspired -- very different than your average wedding, for now :) Many thanks again to the wonderful models and artists that made everything come together!

Markus and Tera

Weather in Yosemite is unpredictable at best. Although storms have been dumping snow for a while now, it has been relatively sunny for the past week or so. Then, just in time for Markus and Tera's wedding, a front moved in and dumped fresh powder across the valley. The storm lingered throughout the day as rain and fog created fresh textures on the walls. None of that could even put the slightest damper on Markus and Tera. From getting ready at the Ahwahnee to my favorite wedding chapel and a rocking band at night, this was their day. Their love must have kept them warm (it was in the 30's outside) as we strolled outside for a few photos. I love the vintage feel of the Ahwahnee. It really is a place that everyone needs to visit. It rained before the ceremony so we had to stay indoors and dry. Just as the ceremony ended the rain stopped and we went outside for a few photos. It was very cold and after sunset, so we moved quickly, but I love the atmosphere of the shots. Back inside the Ahwahnee (and warmth) we enjoyed an amazing dinner and great band. The brother of the bride rocked this photo! Congratulations Markus and Tera!

Sophia is here!

A bit more personal news... Most of you know by now that Katie has been pregnant for a quite a while. Her due date was December 3rd, and although she had signs of labor on the 3rd, the day came and went with no new baby. After much waiting, we went in to have the baby on Thursday morning. Things progress very quickly and it wasn't too long after Katie felt her first strong contractions that Sophia jumped out. I say jumped quite literally as the doctor actually did have to catch her (too much excitement for all of us)! Katie did an amazing job during delivery, and now we have a beautiful little girl named Sophia to introduce to everyone! She is a happy healthy baby! Katie was working hard! Mother and daughter together for the first time! Katie's family holding Sophia for the first time. My parents holding their new granddaughter for the first time. Tyler impressed us all with his love for his little sister with a little kiss on her cheek. Shortly after her first bath, Sophia enjoyed her first snooze (I taught her that). Family Time!

The past few weeks have been a blur for me. We took a trip to LA and I setup a model shoot near the beach to work out some ideas that have been rolling around in my head recently. Unfortunately, when the day of the shoot came winds were gusting upwards of 50 mph. I could almost hear someone say "you should have been here yesterday." That night, Katie and Tyler came down with flu symptoms and we had to cut the trip short. It looks like its going to be a while before I can get the shoot done. Thankfully they recovered fairly quickly, but not before passing it along to her family. Two weeks later, I am the only one who has not yet gotten sick and I know my time is coming. The good thing about this was that we got to spend more time together. Normally, Katie's parents spend two days a week with Tyler so I can work, but they were sick too. So Tyler spent some more time with his daddy. Yesterday we headed up the the Nelder Grove of giant sequoias for lunch and a hike. I first took him there when he was only a few weeks old and now I'm chasing him around the trails. It was amazing seeing the look on his face as his jaw dropped at the site of the giants. We're almost there. Katie is just two weeks away from her due date which means that our baby girl could come at any time. We'll keep everyone posted!

Shortly after they returned from their honeymoon in Mexico, Jessica and Chris gave me a call to setup another shoot just a few weeks after their wedding. This time they wanted to get some photos for their Christmas cards and just had to have me shoot them. They were only going to be in town for a few days, and I was busy traveling up and down the state, so it was great that we were able to get together for the shoot. We spent a little over an hour working together on their families property (what an amazing place!). Thanks again guys for trusting me to take photos in the "wood shed". At the end of the shoot, Jessica and Chris said they wanted one last shot with the two of them together on the hay bales. These guys are awesome!

Clothing Store

Recently, I spent the day on a fashion shoot for M Clothing, a small boutique clothing store in the Bay Area. Everyone from the store was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the styles we were creating. It was awesome to have a store full of high fashion to serve as my wardrobe department throughout the shoot. Originally, I had intended to do a lot more shooting outside and on location, but the owner liked the studio shots so much that we stayed indoors longer than expected. Now I just have to arrange for another shoot to do all of the outdoor shots I still have in my mind!

April and Chris are having a little girl!

A little over three years ago, Katie and I filmed April and Chris' wedding in northern California. They are a remarkable couple and I loved working with them back then. Before their wedding, we filmed a "Love Story" video in the Japanese Gardens of Golden Gate Park and it quickly became apparent that: #1 these two are going to be together for the rest of their lives and #2 these two are goofballs in love (and I mean that in the very best way!). When their wedding day came and went, we were blessed to work with such a fun energetic couple and create an amazing video. A few weeks ago they April called me with the news that she was pregnant with a little girl! We talked for a while (I love to catch up with past clients) about the new directions that their lives had taken. Chris serves in the Air Force and is currently stationed in New Mexico, but soon will be transferring to the Los Angeles Air Force Base - so I'm looking forward to surfing with them soon! April told me that they were coming out to California for a few days and wanted me to take maternity shots for her. I knew already that we were going to get some great outside-the-box shots for them and they didn't disapoint. Congratulations again guys!

Earlier this year we filmed the wedding of Sarah and Eric at the Palm Event Center. Last year we filmed her sister Amie's wedding, so we knew we were in for a treat with them. Their family is incredibly close, which made for lots of touching moments. It's really amazing that each sister had such unique and beautiful weddings. But the really amazing thing is how their different personalities come out in the video.

Bridal Shoot in Yosemite

Yesterday, I worked with Heather for a bridal shoot in Yosemite. Obviously having a beautiful bride makes it easy, but the fall colors were simply amazing! We spent the better part of the afternoon in a few different locations, including the old Hetch Hetchy Rail Road. The weather was great and we were even able to take the convertible (I love California). Heather told me she thought she looked like a mermaid in the last series of shots, so I made a quick lighting change to make the rocks go blue and look the look!

Stephanie and Joe

I first met Stephanie and Joe last week during their friends' (and maid of honor) wedding so I knew that this was going to be a fun shoot. Stephanie and Joe have an amazing group of friends and a loving family. There were touching moments of tears and moments complete laughter and joy. And at the end of the night, no one wanted to leave the jumping dance floor. Throughout the entire beautiful wedding at the Copper River Country Club, the love between them shown on everyone.

Sunday - Jessica and Chris at Erna's Elderberry House

Jessica first told me the wedding was at Erna's Elderberry House. If you know what it is, then you must know how excited I was to shoot her wedding. It was a small intimate wedding with close friends, family, and lots of love (and tears). The food and ambiance was simply amazing. Thankfully, Jessica and Chris were as into taking photos as I was, so I took advantage of it. We traveled the grounds to find one amazing place to take photos after another. After eight days of straight shooting, I'm looking forward to taking a day off with my family!

I first met Jessica about six months ago when they learned that the excellent photographer they had planned on using for their wedding was moving from the area. I knew then that she was one of the most well organized brides that I had ever met, but was planning a great party of a wedding. When the day finally came, I was not disappointed. Ever seen fire dancers? I hadn't either -- now I can't wait to see them again.

Friday - Deanna and Jeff in Yosemite

Fresh back from my week of shooting in Redding, my head was swimming with new ideas and I had three weddings on one weekend. Thankfully, Deanna and Jeff were really into creating beautiful images together. The day started off cold and crisp, but it wasn't until the ceremony that snow began to streak through the sky and gave them a white wedding that they had been dreaming of. The cold weather didn't stop these two from taking advantage of the scenery of the park. Once inside, we set up to get some crazy party shots of the guests.

Models and Photographers

I spent most of last week in the Redding area shooting models with a number of other excellent photographers from around the world during a workshop. We all worked together well and bounced new idea off of each other and learned lots! Not to mention, having beautiful models and gorgeous backdrops helps too (who hasn't wanted to do a shoot in a cave?).

Alegria and Duyet - The Wedding!

Last weekend I had my third day shooting Alegria and Duyet. Way back in May they met me in Yosemite for some beautiful engagement photos and earlier this month they had their traditional wedding ceremony. Knowing what a great couple they are, I have really been looking forward to this shoot. Their wedding was at the Oakland Rotounda which I can only describe as stunning. Many thanks to my assistant James who continues to provide great images. I just love the passion between them in this last shot!

Alegria and Duyet - The Ceremony!

A few months ago, Alegria and Duyet joined me up in Yosemite for an amazing engagement session so I knew that I was looking forward to their wedding. They had a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony with close friends and family, and it was simply stunning! I loved the rich colors and traditions of this day. Later on this month, they are having another ceremony and recption for friends and family that I again find myself looking forward to.

Last weekend I had the chance to work with three wonderful seniors in Mariposa. We brought out all of the studio equipment and really had some fun - especially with the white background. Many of you know that I normally work on locations, so being inside for an entire shoot was a bit strange, but I love the photos!

Shannon and John - Engagement Photos

We were originally heading up to Yosemite Park to take engagement photos, but at the last minute decided to avoid the crowds and went to the Merced River instead. So imagine that you just arrive at a beautiful scenic river -- and your photographer makes you go straight into the storm drain. That's what happens when you ask your brother to shoot your engagement photos! After a while in the shade, we heading out to the heat of the day for a few more traditional engagement photos. Unfortunately, the heat of the day got to all of us a little too quickly, but since we were already at the river it was time for a swim. I was stoked to get them in the water and swim around. Suddenly they became a couple of playful lovebirds splashing around together - which made for some beautiful photos! Thanks again guys I had a blast and can't wait for the wedding!

Last weekend I had the chance to work with Ashley to create senior portraits. Since we were at Bass Lake, I felt the need to once again put my model in the water and she was a great sport! Vacation in Mexico

If you tried to reach us over the past few weeks and discovered we weren't around, it's because we were in Mexico. Katie, Tyler and I all packed up and headed down to Puerto Vallarta for some relaxation on the beach (and of course surfing). Unfortunately, as soon as we got there, we received news that our home town was on fire, but thankfully our home was spared. Tyler and his grandpa spent countless hours perfecting his stroke Even we have to get some romantic beach shots of us! I found myself constantly amazed by how lush everything is. The local resturant served mexican coffee flambe. The waiter spent about 10 minutes pouring fire tableside for us.

Over the weekend I had Katie and I got to shoot Magdalene and Brian's wedding at the Old Homestead in Crockett. The Old Homestead is a state landmark and was built with wood that came around Cape Horn, so there was definitely some history here. The town of Crockett served as a wonderful backdrop for some loving portraits of the couple.

Last night was the first weekend night I havn't had a wedding in a while, so our family went to a local concert in Mariposa. Steve Johnson and Those Bobtones put on a great blues show at the Art Park all put on by the Mariposa Arts Council. Every weekend of the summer there's a different act. If you happen to be in Mariposa or Yosemite on a weekend, make sure and stop by for some great music.

Of course, just because it's my night off doesnt mean that I can't take pictures, right?

Earlier this week, Katie and I were able to meet with Jennifer and Chris while in San Francisco for an engagement shoot. We had the chance to work in a few different locations, but my favorite was Baker Beach. Unfortunately, in order to get these shots after the sun went down, we were all in the park after it closed and got locked inside. Thankfully, there was a space just wide enough for us to drives the cars through to get out. Their wedding isn't until next year, but I can't wait!

Alegria and Duyet

Alegria and Duyet are getting married this fall in the Bay Area but had never been to Yosemite. When I first invited them up to the park for an engagement session they jumped at the idea. Unfortunately, despite the recent warm weather, an unpredicted cold front moved in and left us in cold rain. We are all thankful that the rain gave us a short break to take some wonderful photos.

Since it was their first trip to Yosemite valley, I wanted to take some time to show off the beauty of the park while taking photos. They graciously came with me on a short tour as we stopped by some of my favorite spots.

It took them a few minutes to get used to having a camera follow them around, but then they opened up to it and became naturals. Thanks again guys!

I had been looking forward to filming Eva and Brian’s wedding for a long time - we have previously filmed two other weddings that Eva has been a part of, most recently Susan and Henry’s. They are an amazing couple with great friends.

But for some reason, when Eva was putting her dress on, the photographer was no where to be found. I quickly went to my car and grabbed my still equipment that I happened to have with me for an engagement shoot the next day and got these beautiful photos. We only had the chance to get a few frames, but what a gorgeous bride! I can’t wait to get to work on the video!

Susan and Henry

Susan and Henry contacted us to film their wedding after seeing a video we produced for their friends. Their wedding was simply stunning - a photo tour of San Francisco follower up with a reception at a picture perfect Napa winery. Unfortunately, their wedding day had a few glitches, but nothing could stop the love between these two on the best day of their lives. In a couple of weeks we will be filming a wedding for their friends Eva and Brian.
